CAREER DEVELOPMENT

Government pay grades are indicative of the responsibility of the job. GS-7 is considered entry level for an engineer or scientist. Grades GS-9 and GS-11 are intermediate levels of responsibility with GS-12 considered journeyman, or working level. Some locations consider GS-13 journeyman level, but promotion to that or other levels is beyond the scope of the PALACE Acquire program. Listed below are two possible tracks one may qualify for upon entering the PALACE Acquire program:

Three-year track entry level at grade GS-7 for persons with a BS degree only:

  • First Year: One year of on-the-job training with a
    promotion at the end of the year to GS-9
  • Second Year: One year of graduate school with a
    promotion at the end of the year to GS-11
  • Third Year: One year of on-the-job training with a
    promotion at the end of the year to journeyman level
    scientist or engineer GS-12

Two-year track entry level GS-9 for persons with a MS Degree or BS and experience:

  • First Year: One year of on-the-job training with a
    promotion at the end of the year to GS-11
  • Second year: One year of on-the-job training with a
    promotion at the end of the year to GS-12
